ERCOT (the Electric Reliability Council of Texas) operates the electric grid and wholesale electricity market covering roughly 90% of Texas's electric load. It is unique among major U.S. grid operators for running as its own interconnection, largely isolated from the Eastern and Western Interconnections — which limits its ability to import power from neighboring grids during extreme demand events.
